Bethany Elaine Wons, 76, of Paw Paw, passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo, MI. She was born December 24, 1942 in Fort Worth, Texas, the daughter of the late Edmond A. Slate Sr.and Durralee (Justis) Slate . Beth proudly served in the United States Army as a medical corpsman during the Vietnam War.

Upon her return home she did a lot of Volunteer work. She was a senior companion for many years and she enjoyed keeping them company and making them smile. Beth loved bingo, card games, music, dancing any time the opportunity presented itself, and helping people.

She never was much for strangers, so she befriended everyone. Beth also loved garage sales, she and her friends would drive around eating donuts and catching all the greatest finds. She is survived by her daughter, Gail Stratton, son, Leroy Wons, two grandchildren, Jedaiah DIllon Merchant and Edward Clyde Merchant and her brother, Robert Hugo.

Bethany was preceded in death by her sisters, Patricia Ann Gohman, Naomi Jean West, Edith Carolyn Johnson and Mary Ruth (Ball) Birdsall. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 23, 2019 beginning at 10:00 am – 11:00 am at Trinity Lutheran Church, 721 Pine Street, Paw Paw, where a memorial service will commence at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Ronald Moritz officiating.

Bethany will be laid to rest at Fort Custer National Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to the funeral home.
