Bettie’s Obituary Bettie Lou Ross, at the age of 88, departed this world Sunday, May 5, 2019 at 3:49 a.m. at Integrity Health Care of Wood River. Bettie was born June 25, 1930 to the late Eugene and Flayvelia (James) Bea. She married Leroy Ross, Sr., and they had 2 sons.

After separating from her husband, she raised her children as a single mother. Ms. Ross was employed for Tony’s Lounge as a cook for over 30 years. While working, she met a few celebrities, such as Lou Rawls.

Her job prevented her from attending church, but she believed in God. She professed a hope in Christ at an early age; she and her sister were baptized at the age of 12 and 13 at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church. Bettie enjoyed talking to neighbors, watching television, reading, and attending family dinners.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by: a son, Leroy Ross, Jr; a sister, Barbara James; 2 brothers, Lafayette Lockhart and Eugene Bea, Jr.; a brother-in-law, Milton Johnson, Sr.; special nieces, Gwendolyn Winston Meeks and Janet Cooper. Left to cherish fond memories: a son, Charles Ross; 5 grandchildren, Tonia Taylor, Joylonda (Floyd) Horn, Renika (George) Lindsey, Britnee Lucas, and Deshone Colbert; 5 great grandchildren, Janae, Jalon, Maiya, Taylor, and Raine; a sister, Shirley Johnson; a daughter-in-law, Claudette Holly; a former daughter-in-law, Iona Lucas; a sister-in-law, Ann Bea; and many special nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
