OBITUARY Betty Jaacks December 2, 1930 – July 11, 2018 Play Tribute Movie Betty Jean Jaacks died peacefully in her sleep and went home to her Lord on July 11th, 2018 at her assisted living residence in Vernon Hills IL. She leaves behind family and many friends and neighbors who deeply mourn her passing, who cherish her memory and will greatly miss her. Betty was born to Conrad and Irma Eimers on December 2nd, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois, where she was raised until the age of 10 before moving to Skokie.
She graduated from Evanston High School in 1948 and went on to Northwestern University where she earned a Bachelors in Speech in 1952. While at Northwestern, she was very active in her sorority Kappa Alpha Theta. Soon after graduating, she would meet Lee Jaacks, her beloved husband of 51 years.
They married January 2nd, 1954. After trying to have kids of their own, they adopted their son Dale and two years later their daughter Karen both from the Cradle in Evanston. Betty deeply loved her family and chose to be a stay at home Mom all the years Dale and Karen were growing up, though she could have accepted a job in broadcast journalism.
From the start, Betty made a wonderful home for Lee and their children. She was a terrific cook, and she and Lee hosted many memorable gatherings for family, friends, and neighbors. Anyone who was at her dinner table was truly blessed.
Her famous blueberry pancakes were a big hit with her kids and grandkids. Betty was very involved in her church, the Park Ridge Presbyterian Church for 60 years, where she sung in in the choir and served on various committees and boards too numerous to name. She was a woman of great faith in her Lord and lived out her faith in her daily life.
She had the uncanny ability to meet someone for the first time, hear their story and then relay their story in great detail to someone else later, She genuinely loved and cared for people. Anyone that knew her felt cared for and knew it was real. Betty was also very involved in her local Panhellenic chapter and was a Girl Scout leader when Karen was young.
She was an avid golfer who was often a part of two leagues at the same time. She loved to travel, especially when Lee was alive. They spent many winters in FL where they would both enjoy golf together.
She had a wonderful fashion sense, she enjoyed putting together her lovely outfits. She had a very appreciative eye, and also loved to garden. She loved music of all kinds and would often be caught singing around the house.
Family, friends, and strangers alike were recipients of Betty’s natural kindness and generosity, especially her 7 grandchildren whom she adored. Her church and many charities were recipients of her generosity. She was profoundly gracious, and easy to talk to and appreciative of people from all walks of life.
Surely, she touched the lives of many! Betty is survived by her son Dale Jaacks,(Anne), and her daughter Karen Ott,(Arthur), seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and her brother Conrad Eimers She was preceded in death by her husband Lee Jaacks, her brother Robert Eimers and her sister Ruth Meier. Betty is being interned at Ridgewood Cemetery.
Funeral arrangements are as follows; Visitation will be from 4-8 pm at Oehler Funeral Home, 2099 Miner St (corner of Northwest Hwy/Rt14 and Rand Rd) Des Plaines, The funeral service will begin at 10:00 am at Park Ridge Presbyterian Church, 1300 Crescent Ave, Park Ridge, In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Park Ridge Presbyterian Church or The Cradle in Evanston.
