Obituary for Betty Jane Reish (Reish) Betty Jean Reish age 89 passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, November 25, 2018 at her home in Portage, MI. She was born in Schoolcraft, MI on May 27, 1929 to Ivan and Eunice (Salisbury) Reish. She had an older sister, Dorothy (Reish) Carter.

Although Betty was born with a disability, her family included her in family life and community activities. She attended elementary school in Schoolcraft until the 2nd grade and it was one of her great frustrations that she hadn’t been able to go further in school. As an adult, Betty participated in community programs including McKercher Rehabilitation Center and Edison Neighborhood Center.

She loved making art and continued this activity through the years. Her most recent art experience was through Creative Awakenings studio in Kalamazoo. Betty spent her last years in a home run and managed by Community Living Options.

The staff there provided a warm and loving home atmosphere for her. Betty was a joy to be with and enjoyed helping out in any way she could, spending time cutting coupons for the house to use to help with the house budget. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Ivan and Eunice, and her sister Dorothy.

A funeral service will be held at the Avink Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at 10:00 AM. Visitation will take place the hour before the service at 9 AM. The service will be followed by a burial in the Schoolcraft Cemetery.
