Obituary for Betty Lorene Braun Betty was a fun person. She loved making memories and spending time with people she cared about. If you can imagine a room full of people laughing, playing cards on Friday nights, telling stories and enjoying each other’s company, you can imagine Betty and who she was.

She passed on July 5th. She was born in Atwood, KS on October 20, 1929. Her family lived in Ft.

Morgan, CO, but back then people traveled to family member’s homes to have babies! So Betty’s mother, Ruby Brooks, travelled to her sister’s home in Atwood to give birth to her first child, Betty. In the early 1940’s, Betty’s family would move to Kennewick when her father got a job in the Tri Cities and moved the family to start a new life.

Betty always worked, as did so many in those times. In school, she had jobs cutting asparagus, was a cashier at Galloway’S Market, worked in the Kennewick High School office doing administrative work, and even held a job developing photos during the major flood in the late 40’s. After graduating from Kennewick High School, she married Bill Christensen in June of 1947.

She and Bill had 3 children during their 25 years together. She worked in the circulation department of the Tri-City Herald while raising her family. She participated in her children’s activities and was a member of the Ascension Lutheran Church.

Camping and fishing were among the family’s favorite outings. Most who knew Betty say she loved visitors and being the hostess. There were parties and barbecues and card games.

Everyone was welcome. Betty and Bill divorced in 1972. Betty met Herman Braun and they married in 1975.

They spent 25 years together, ending with Herman’s death in 2000. After retiring from the Tri-City Herald, she stayed busy with family activities, her friends, taking care of her home in Kennewick and her pugs. She was 88 when she died.

She lived a full life. She will be missed dearly. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Herman Braun, her parents Marvin and Ruby Brooks, her brothers Donald and Richard Brooks, and her sister Donna Gregory.

Betty is survived by her sister Marla Berry; her 3 children Bill Christensen, Darren Christensen ana Sherri Scheer (John); 2 grandsons Jason Scheer and James Scheer (Debbie); 3 great grand children (Madeline, Meredith and Michael Scheer) and numerous nieces and nephews. As her health declined, she received assistance from Trios Home Health Care and Hospice. We cannot say enough about the wonderful health care professionals who helped her through this period.
