Betty Lou Gasda November 23, 1940 – January 17, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Upload Photo| View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Betty Lou Gasda, 78, of Liberty Boro, died Thursday, January 17, 2019 surrounded by her family and close friends. She was born November 23, 1940 in McKeesport and was the daughter of the late Chester and Anne (Ulich) Charneicki. She was the wife of 56 years of the late John J. “Sonny” Gasda, who passed away August 12, 2015.

She was a former member of St. Mark’s Parish in Liberty Boro. Many years ago, Betty Lou was the general manager of the former Giant Shoe Mart in Olympia Shopping Center, and later moved to a career at Giant Eagle in North Versailles, from which she retired. Undoubtedly, this vivacious, charming, straight shooting, honest to a fault lovely woman will be missed by all who lives she touched in some way, and remembered for her love of wing nights, her membership at the Polish Club in Glassport and Casino action!

She is survived by daughters, Carol M. (Rod “Yoke”) Yauch and Rebecca A. (John Vozar) McCorkle both of Liberty Borough. Also left, sadly missing their witty and sometimes stubborn grandmother, the apple of Grandma Betty’s eye grandchildren, Alana (Louis) DiLembo, Daniel Markovich Jr., and Jessica Gesmond, great-grandchildren, John and McKayla Gesmond, Bree and Mikey Pisarcik, Daniel Markovich, III. , and Louie DiLembo, brother, Chester (Michelle) Charneicki of Elizabeth Twp, sister-in-law, Patricia Gasda of Elizabeth Twp nephews, Maurice, Evan, Ricky , Timmy, Richard and Brian.

In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by her grandson, Edward Iwanowski, whom she absolutely adored and she made sure he knew he was loved unconditionally throughout his ever short life here on earth. She was also preceded in death by her beloved brother, Richard Charneicki, and sister, Connie Hill. There is no visitation.

Private service and entombment will be in the Grandview Cemetery, North Versailles where she will be reunited with her husband, Sonny. Arrangements are by the Gilbert Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 1638 Lincoln Way, White Oak (412) 672-6322 Troy J. Gilbert, Director.
