Obituary for Betty Sue Cummings Betty Sue Cummings Betty was born on November 24, 1926 to Dan Lawson Shields and Irma May Bailey Shields in Simsboro, Louisiana. Betty graduated from Polytechnic Institute (Louisiana Tech) in Ruston, Louisiana with a degree in home economics and elementary education. She loved teaching kindergarten in both parochial and public education school systems.

She enjoyed playing bridge, traveling the world, cooking, and sewing for family and friends. Betty was an active member of First Baptist Church of Orange where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School. She also worked on the benevolence committee.

Her devotion to family was an important part of her life. She married B.F. Cummings and they had four children. She loved to visit and play with her seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Dan and Irma Shields; loving husband, B.F. Cummings; son, Benny Cummings; sister, Marguerite Jones; and brother-in-law, Allen Jones. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters and daughter-in-law, Brenda Osborn and husband James, of Monroe, LA, Debbie Griffin and husband Larry, of Alvin, TX, Donna Webb and husband Mike, of Orange, TX, and Edie Cummings, of Shreveport, LA; grandchildren, Andy Cummings and wife Jan, Tracy Cummings Hall, Heather Osborn Grillot and husband Christian, Chad Osborn and wife Tashia, Steven Griffin and wife Suzanne, Christy Webb Scott and husband Ryan, and David Webb and wife Keren; and her great-grandchildren, Benjamin Cummings, Claire Cummings, Hannah Hall, Hunter Hall, Tristen Osborn, Shephard Grillot, Brayden Griffin, Hayleigh Griffin, Taylor Griffin, Parker Scott, Jackson Scott, Justin Webb, Avery Webb, and Faith Webb. The family would like to extend a special thank you to all of her caregivers, as well as Harbor Hospice.

In lieu of customary remembrances, memorial contributions can be made to First Baptist Church Mission Office or to your favorite charity. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 30, 2018, at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens in Orange, Texas.
