Betty Sue Wolthoff, 89, of Grundy Center, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at Arlington Place Assisted Living in Grundy Center, Iowa. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 19, 2018 at the Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 20, 2018 at the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Grundy Center.

Burial will follow the funeral service at Rose Hill Cemetery in Grundy Center. Memorials may be directed to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the Betts Family for Austin’s Care or Bethany Presbyterian Church. Betty was born on July 13, 1929 in Walnut Ridge, Arkansas.

She was the loving daughter of Thomas and Maude (Manning) Whittaker. Betty graduated from the Walnut Ridge High School in the class of 1947. She moved to Cedar Falls, Iowa in 1947, where she worked as a secretary for 2 years.

On June 18, 1949 she was united in marriage to Robert Wolthoff at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Cedar Falls. Betty was employed by the Grundy Center Community School as an assistant librarian for 23 years. After her retirement she was a volunteer for the Kling Memorial Library for many years.

Betty was a member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church since 1951. She served the church as a Deacon, taught Sunday School & Bible School, served on the Christian Education Board and was a member of the Women’s Association. She was an avid Iowa State Cyclones fan.

Betty’s passion was reading & spending time with family and friends; but her true joy in life came from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Betty is survived by her sons, Rod (Marta Kay) Wolthoff, Tim (Nancy) Wolthoff & Tom (Pamela) Wolthoff; grandchildren Matthew (Lucy Ann) Wolthoff, Sarah (Nick) Betts, Amy (Mike) Harral, Lindsay (Scott) Pechota, Alyson (Nick) Sierra and Kyle Wolthoff (Danielle Bayer); great-grandchildren Austin, Aiden & Cayson Betts, Hunter Ann, McCoy & Kerr Wolthoff, Madison & Mason Pechota, Jackson Harral, and Avery Sierra; and many beloved nieces & nephews. Betty is preceded in death by her parents; husband Robert and 2 brothers & 5 sisters.
