Betty VanTassel, age 90, of Whitehall, passed away Friday, July 20, 2018 in Muskegon. She was born November 6, 1927 in Hart to Harold and Ella (Riebe) VanTassel. Betty was raised in Mears and graduated from Hart High School in 1945.

She lived in Mears for many years. She began working at Weeks Lumber Co. in Hart after high school until 1977. Betty was employed at Silver Mills until 1980.

Following that she worked for George Dent Sales in Montague and moved with the company to St. Joseph in 1983. She retired in 2001 and moved back to this area, to Whitehall. Her family was always a big part of Betty’s life.

She enjoyed visiting with her nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews. Betty is survived by her sister-in-law, Evelyn Stuart; nieces and nephews, Wayne (Diana) Fuller of Onaway,, Linda (Tim) Holt of Naples, Florida, Barb Smith of Shelby, Lori (Doug) Hartman of Twin Lake, Rick Bursley of Hart, Cheryl (Mike) VanAgtmael of Hart, Mike Bursley of Hart, Randy VanTassel of Hyannis, Massachusetts and Trina Dodds of Hart; several great and great-great nieces and nephews; special friends, Kristy Fowler, Carol Achterhoff, Karen Gillish and Leola Boundy. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Jim VanTassel; sisters, Donna Nelson, Joyce Titus and Phyllis Bursley; nephews, infant, Ross Fuller, James Harold Titus, James Harold VanTassel II and Mark VanTassel; niece, Valerie VanTassel; and special friend, Betty Crossman.

A visitation-luncheon will be held Saturday, July 28th, from 11am to 1 pm at Shelby Congregational United Church of Christ, 51 East Third Street, Shelby. Please consider Poppen Residence of Harbor Hospice, 1050 W. Western Ave. Suite 400, Muskegon, MI 49441 as a memorial.
