Obituary On May 3rd, 2019, Betty Paul was welcomed into heaven by her beloved husband Frank who preceded her in death on January 4th. Betty was born on June 11th, 1929, in Portage PA to the late Joseph and Agnes Rzeszut. She was also preceded in death by her siblings Joseph Rzeszut, William Rzeszut, Carl Rzeszut, Margaret DeSantis and Agnes Trombley.
Betty and Frank grew up in the same small town. After the war, Frank who was now working in Granite City IL began writing to Betty. Frank eventually proposed to Betty.
He was so excited to marry her that he sent the engagement ring by mail. They have never been apart on their anniversary and this year they will celebrate their 67th in Heaven on June 25th. Betty was an active member of the Saint Joseph the Worker Parish for most of her life, as well as a member of the Christian Mothers.
Betty belonged to a wonderful prayer group and prayed daily for her family and friends. Her passion was shopping. If it was out there she could find it…and on sale!
She loved to give gifts to her friends and family, especially her grandchildren. Betty was also an excellent baker. Her family enjoyed her goodies, as did her grandkids’ teachers who she loved to surprise with her famous cream puffs.
She enjoyed bowling in her younger years and playing cards with friends. She was an avid reader and puzzle solver. But her greatest joy in life was her family.
Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of her life. Betty leaves behind her only child, Cynthia (Louis) Bernardi, her beloved grandchildren Renata Capozzoli (Brandon Perrone), and Alex Bernardi, and great-grandchildren Mayzie and Desmond Perrone. She also leaves behind dear nephews Joseph, Raymond and Anthony Rzeszut and their families.
Betty’s final arrangements have been entrusted to Greco-Hertnick funeral home where visitation will take place on Thursday, May 9th from 4-8pm. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday May10th at 11am at St. Joseph the Worker church. Private Interment will be at the Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Arlinda Russell who helped care for Betty and Frank and became a dear friend to both. Memorial contributions may be sent to Betty’s favorite charity, St. Jude’s Children’s hospital. To send flowers to the family of Betty Virginia Paul, please visit Tribute Store.
