OBITUARY Betty Youle Tallarico November 22, 1922 – July 15, 2018 Betty Youle Tallarico passed peacefully into the hands of our Lord on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at the incredible age of 95. She was born November 22, 1922 in Dorothy, West Virginia and was the third daughter of Michael and Mary Youle. After her father’s death, her mother married Tony Zifilippo and Betty acquired several step-siblings whom she loved dearly.
Betty grew up working in various grocery stores owned by her family and was a graduate of South Charleston High School. She was known for her drawing talent and worked as a draftsman for the Navy during WWII. She later used those same drawing talents to produce ads for Embees and Sears Department Stores.
Betty married the love of her life, Samuel A Tallarico on August 16, 1947 and was the proud mother of five daughters, Mary Ellen, Patricia, Toni, Betsy and Kathleen. She was a devout catholic and was a founding member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in South Charleston, West Virginia. Betty could always be found serving others, whether it was as a girl scout leader or chairman of several guilds.
She enjoyed playing bridge, sewing, cooking and going to exercise class after all her daughters had moved out. She especially loved her visits from her grandchildren and made sure all of them left her house completely stuffed full of her spaghetti and her famous chocolate cake. Betty and Sam celebrated 50 years of marriage in 1997 and were almost married 60 years when Sam passed away in 2006.
After Sam’s passing, Betty moved to Texas and became a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Richmond. She enjoyed gardening and sitting out in her gazebo watching the horses and petting her cat “Sam”. She also loved embroidery, attending church and playing bingo.
Betty will be remembered as a classy and kind lady who was always wearing her pearls and lipstick. She loved the state of West Virginia and enjoyed watching WVU sports, especially football. Betty was a welcoming woman who loved her family more than anything and made sure to instill Italian traditions and recipes which are being carried out to this day.
Even after being diagnosed with dementia in 2000, she never missed an opportunity to tell someone that they were beautiful and that she loved them. Even in the end, she was always smiling. Betty is survived by her daughter Mary Ellen and Son-in-law John Providenti of South Charleston, West Virginia, daughter Patricia and Son-in-law Rick Sowers of Alexandria, Virginia, daughter Toni and Son-in-law Mike Van Meter of South Charleston, West Virginia, daughter Betsy and Son-in-law Bruce Steele of Charleston, South Carolina and Kathy and Son-in-law Wayne Richards of Richmond, Texas.
