OBITUARY Bettye Lou Duffy Beason July 19, 1928 – August 25, 2018 Bettye Lou Duffy Beason, 90, went to “glory” with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, August 25, 2018. Bettye was born July 19, 1928 in Matagorda, Texas, to Helen Gilbert Duffy and Amos Emory Duffy. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 55 years, Lew Rollin Beason, her brothers, Jack and Edward Duffy, her sister Trude Ann Brandon and son, Scott Rollin Beason.
Bettye is survived by her sons: William Joseph Beason and wife Linda, Ted Gilbert Beason and wife Rhonda, Ryan Andrew Beason and wife Carol, grandchildren, Daniel Scott Beason and wife Emile, Stephanie Lynn Beard and husband Mathan Beard, Wyatt Joseph Beason and Sarah Elizabeth Beason. Bettye attended Southwestern College in Georgetown majoring in Christian Education. She served as Church Secretary at St. Paul’s United Methodist, the Director of the Ed White Youth Center at Seabrook United Methodist, Christian Education Director at Friendswood United Methodist and Seabrook United Methodist, and the Director of the Senior Citizen Center at Seabrook United Methodist.
She started working for the United Methodist Church in 1952 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church in downtown Houston. She continued working for the United Methodist Church, in one capacity or another, until her retirement from Seabrook United Methodist Church in 2008. She was proud to have raised four eagle scouts and was very involved in the Scouting Programs in Alabama, Pennsylvania and Texas.
She was an active member of PEO and United Methodist Women and served as chapter presidents for both organizations. In PEO, she belonged to chapters in five different states. As a result of being a PEO member for more than 50 years she earned the title of a PEO “Golden Girl””.
She was also a member of the Texas Conference of Christian Educators. During her last weeks at the hospital and in hospice care at “The Crossings” in League City, where she was a resident, a group of caring devoted friends, some from out of state, organized a schedule of around-the-clock care. When the friends were asked why they provided such care they responded, “It was an honor, she would have done the same for us”.
She had good friends because she was a good friend. Her memorial service will take place at Seabrook United Methodist Church at 3300 Lakeside Drive, Seabrook, TX, 77586 on Saturday, September 8, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. The service will be a “Celebration of Life”. Donations may be made to The Crossings Chapel Fund.
