Obituary of Betty Hewitte Betty Jean Hayes Hewitte, 92, of Asheboro, died Friday, March 1, 2019 at Autumn Care of Shallotte, in Shallotte NC. Betty was born December 18, 1926 at City Hospital in Winston-Salem NC, the first child of Robert Smith and Bertie (Manning) Hayes. She was a 1944 graduate of James A. Gray High School, and a 1948 graduate of High Point College with a BA in English.

She taught high school English for one year at Randleman High School, Randleman, NC. She was later employed at The Jewel Box in Asheboro and Burlington, and for many years at Shaw Furniture Galleries in Randleman. She retired after her employment at the NC License Plate Agency in Asheboro.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Thomas Hewitte, her sister, Nancy Ellen Hayes, and two infant brothers, Robert Smith Hayes, Jr., and Edgar Lewis Hayes. She is survived by her daughter, Ellen Hewitte Vaughn and husband Jim of North Myrtle Beach, SC, granddaughter, Lily Vaughn Lord and husband Curtis of Lewisville, TX, grandson, Thomas Grayson Vaughn of Fayetteville, AR, and one great-granddaughter, Ivy Jean Lord. The family will receive friends on Monday, March 4, 2019 from 12:30-1:45PM at West Bend United Methodist Church, 1080 Albemarle Rd, Asheboro, NC, where she was a member.

The Funeral Service will follow at the church at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Kari Howard and the Rev. Keys Pendleton officiating.

Burial will be in Randolph Memorial Park, Asheboro. Memorials made be to West Bend United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1845, Asheboro NC 27204.
