Bich-Du Le was born in Hue, Vietnam on October 3, 1939.

At a young age, she met Trai, her one true love. She followed her dreams of becoming a nurse and received a study-abroad scholarship to attend the Registered Nurse Program at Duke University in the United States. When she returned to Vietnam, she continued her professional career while raising six children.

With the threat and perils of war in Vietnam, and its impending fall to communism, she was compelled to leave her home country and fled to the United States. Bich-Du Le, as a refugee and having to start anew, never failed to lose her focus, determination and resolve. She worked as a registered nurse at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida, and later became Director of Nursing at Hialeah Convalescent Home.

She continued to be a loving mother to her children. She served as a true role model as they all fulfilled careers of their own in the medical profession. Bich-Du Le was a devout Buddhist and was inspired by the beauty of nature.

She was able to express her love for these through song and poetry. She was an avid singer, dancer, mandolin player, and poet. She has published, under the pen name, “Thúy Trúc”, numerous Vietnamese and English poems about love, family, religion and nature.

Bich-Du Le will be missed but not forgotten. She touched all who knew her. Her indomitable spirit will continue to encourage her family and friends to succeed in the face of life’s obstacles.

Her love for religion and nature will continue to inspire all of us to seek enjoyment in the beauty of life.
