Mr. Billy Gene Melton, age 87, of Quitman, Arkansas passed away Sunday, May 12, 2019 at his residence. Born December 19, 1931 in Spokane, Missouri he was the son of the late Harvey and Opal Magers Melton. He was a member of the American Legion Post 64 and served 20 years in the U.S. Air Force retiring in 1973.

His hobbies included fishing, traveling, camping and gardening. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Dennis Wayne, Rex and Larry Melton. Survivors include his wife, Madeline Barnes Melton; one son, Billy Gene Melton, Jr. (Melanie) of Springhill, Kansas; two step-sons, John Havens of New Mexico and David Stanford, Jr. of Quitman, Arkansas; one daughter, Sandra Jean Dewitt of Kansas City, Missouri; three step-daughters, Laura Hannon of Colorado, Lori Stanford of Florida and Felisha, Sanders of Quitman, Arkansas; one brother, Joe Melton (Ina Faye) of Highlandville, Missouri; one sister, Betty Melton of Highlandville, Missouri; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granchild; many nieces and nephews and a host of extended family and friends.

A visitation will be held 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Thursday, May 16, 2019 at Heber Springs Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Friday, May 17, 2019 at the funeral home. Interment will be in Cleburne County Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Heber Springs.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Legion Post 64 of Heber Springs, Arkansas.
