OBITUARY Billy Glenn Lasiter December 27, 1925 – July 10, 2018 December 27, 1925 – July 10, 2018 Billy Glenn Lasiter, age 92, passed away July 10, 2018, with his wife by his side. Born ninth into a family of ten children, he was the son of Thomas A. Lasiter, a sharecropper farmer, in Mansfield, AR. Billy graduated from Mansfield High School, home of the Tigers, where he played football, basketball and ran track.

Billy went into the service, and served two years in the US Navy at the close of WW II. He logged over 96,000 miles on the USS Rawlins, APA#226, around the island of Japan and at the Battle of Okinawa. He attended college at Arkansas State Teachers’ College majoring in social studies and physical education.

Billy taught in Arkansas and Missouri for six years before moving to Los Angeles in 1957. He enjoyed a 30-year career with LAUSD teaching driver training / driver education to thousands of students across the city. In retirement, he always had a vegetable garden that he tended, sharing the harvest with neighbors and friends.

He enjoyed visiting with friends, and playing golf with Over the Hill Gang and Teed Off Gang. He loved to be in the kitchen whether baking or preparing for holiday and family dinners. He also enjoyed traveling and loved cruising, any opportunity to be on the water.

He was active at Calvary Church, West Hills, from 1959 on. Over the years, he served as a deacon, usher and enjoyed teaching, singing, and working on several building projects while his health permitted. A loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, he is survived by his wife Doris, two children from a previous marriage, Michael K. Lasiter (Teri) and Kathy A. Lasiter-Thurber (Jim), five grandchildren, Devon, Jim, Tara, Jana and Sean, and five great-grandchildren, Shannon, Phoenix, Cash, Lilly and Max.

His brother Bobby J. Lasiter (Gladys) also survives him as well as many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and all those whose lives he touched. The family is especially grateful to Drs.

Kajani, Safa, Davidson, Kassabian and Lee, their staff and the nursing staff at Chatsworth Park Health Care Center for their care and compassion during his brief battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2:00 p.m. at Calvary Church, 7115 Shoup Avenue, West Hills. A reception will follow at Porter Valley Country Club.
