Dover, DE – Bishop Wayne R. Trout went to be with the Lord on Friday, April 26, 2019 at 11:50 PM while a resident at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, DE. He was 86 years old. Wayne R. Trout was born on January 30, 1933 to Jerre and Mary Trout of Lancaster Pennsylvania.

He faithfully attended the Presbyterian Church growing up. He attended his first Pentecostal Service at the age of 16. Soon after his conversion experience he began preaching the Gospel.

At the age of 19 he started a church in Wilmington, Delaware. In 1952 he began his first building project. He learned building skills that he would use in later years to support his family and build churches.

August 8, 1958 he married the love of his life, Janet Varnado. She was serving as a missionary to the island of Jamaica. They met when she came back to the states to attend a conference.

Their ‘dating’ was all done by mail until she came up from Jamaica to marry him. In 1961 they moved to Dover, DE to start a church. He built the first church building in 1961 at 18 Greenhill Avenue.

They soon outgrew that facility and so they purchased 3 acres at 1790 S. DuPont Highway. He built a church there and later added an Education Wing on the back of the building. In 1965 they started another church in North East Maryland.

In 1972, after growing out of a rented facility, they purchased property on Route 40 and built a church. He enlarged the building twice and then built a Family Life Center adjacent to the church. In 1977 They purchased 21 acres across the highway at 3282 N. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE.

He built a 64,000 sq. ft. building which housed Kent Christian Academy, Kent Christian College, and Kent Christian Center.

He later built a dormitory as well. Bishop Trout also served as District Superintendent of the New Jersey – Delaware District for 25 years for the United Pentecostal Church where he served on the General Board of UPCI. In 2009 He was inducted into “The Order of the Faith” by UPCI.

Bishop Trout has mentored literally thousands of men and women. He was never selfish with his time or res but understood the value of training those who would walk beside him as well as those who would follow him. He loved to cook and bake.

He fed thousands. Nothing made him happier than seeing others enjoy his cooking talent. Of his life it best could be said: “It is not what you use and take with you, but what you build and leave behind”.

Janet Trout, his wife of 60 years, is left to cherish his memory along with his son, Pastor Anthony Trout (wife, Tammy) and daughter Jeanette Deel (husband, James). The Trout grandchildren will not soon forget their beloved Pop Pop: Ryan Trout (wife, Kristin), Stephanie Kearns (husband, Thomas), Devin Trout (wife, Kirsten), Brittany Coroniti (husband, John). The ‘greats’ were his delight: Brody Thomas Kearns and Wyatt Ross Kearns.

He is also survived by sisters, Geraldine Seats and Clara Parker. Brother, Jerre Trout. The Pentecostals of Dover, DE at 4462 W. Denney’s Rd.

, Dover, DE will host visitation on Tuesday, May 7, from 10 am to 12 noon. Bishop Trout’s Memorial Service will be held at 12 noon. Internment will be at Barratt’s Chapel Cemetery following the service.
