Blanche I. (Rhyce) McCarthy Sewell, 86, of Torrington, CT, peacefully passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2019, at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. She was the beloved wife of R. Malcolm Sewell for 23 years. Blanche was born December 12, 1932, in Torrington, CT, the daughter of the late Ralph and Blanche (Richard) Rhyce.

Committed to her community, she was the Director of the Blanche McCarthy Senior Center until her retirement, and she was a longtime active member with the Girl Scouts, Grange, as well as the Lions Club where she received the highest award. In addition to her husband Malcolm she is survived by her three children, Vincent Ciriello and his wife Dorothy, Savannah, GA, Deborah Ciriello and her husband Tim Grohowski, New Hartford, CT, Christine Schick and her husband Gregory, Los Angeles, CA. She is also survived by Richard Sewell and his wife Nancy, Southington, CT, Scott Sewell and his wife Kelly, Bristol, CT; six grandchildren, Jamie, Lawson, Paisley, Jason, and Michael Sewell, Danielle Ciriello; one great grandson, Tyler Sewell, as well as several nieces, nephews, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by one grandson, Nicholas Ciriello. Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Cook Funeral Home, 82 Litchfield St., Torrington, CT. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at Cook Funeral Home.

Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Pleasant Valley, CT. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Torrington Lions Club (www. torringtonlionsevents.org) or to the Center for Cancer Care, 200 Kennedy Drive, Torrington, CT 06790 or to the American Heart Association (donatenow.
