Bradford Earl Palmer, 67, of Carterville, passed away Thursday, May 9, 2019, at the CLC of the VA Medical Center in Marion. Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m., Monday, May 13, 2019, at Riggin-Pillatsch & Burke Funeral Home in Carterville, with Rev. Ralph Brandon officiating.

Burial with military rites will be held at a later date. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Brad was born on August 18, 1951, in Herrin, to Carlton “Sonny” and Awanda (Jones) Palmer. He married Vicki Ann (Vaughn) Bishop and together they had a daughter, Lesley. Brad later married Linda Kay Crawford on February 14, 2000, in Marion.

She preceded him in death on February 25, 2010. He is survived by his daughters, Lesley Gould of Cambria and Ashley Mize of Herrin; grandchildren, Teresa Pender and Julian Mize; sister, Lynola Hovenga; niece and nephews, Tracy (David) Galloway, Christopher Hovenga and Chris Crawford; great-niece, Brittany Galloway; and numerous cousins. Brad was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Linda; brother-in-law, John Hovenga; and granddaughter, Natalie Pender.

He honorably served our country in the U. S. Army during Vietnam. Brad’s patriotism extends as far back as the Revolutionary War, in which his relative, Peter Hanger, proudly fought. Brad retired after 32 years of service at Maytag.
