85, formerly of Binghamton, passed away on Monday, January 28, 2019. He was the son of the late Raymond Lewis Tiffany and Cleo Dardenne Tiffany born on November 11, 1933. Bradford Louis Tiffany was the middle child of three boys, with Dar the elder and Tom the youngest.
Born and raised in Binghamton, NY, Brad would leave as a teenager to join the United States Marine Corps from 1953 – 1955. During the Korean War, he served on the U.S.S. Saipan (CVL – 48) Aircraft Carrier with the task of loading bombs on aircraft. Brad loved being a Marine.
He may not have been a model Marine (he earned Private First Class three times due to a tendency of losing stripes), but he sure loved a fight! After his service, he returned home to finish his HS degree, fulfilling a promise made to his mother. A traveler, he visited 56 nations throughout his life including one around-the-world trip with his motorcycle.
Brad was physically active and fit his entire life. He was an avid runner, including marathons, and lifted weights into his 80’s. Brad would become a restaurateur himself after 10 years of working in the hotel and restaurant industry.
His first venture in running a restaurant was with the Red Lion Inn in Endicott, NY before joining Bob Guy, and brother Dar with the first Scotch ‘N Sirloin, established in Binghamton. They employed their father Raymond as a butcher and mother Cleo made the famous cheesecake in her home. This restaurant would soon be replicated successfully in Syracuse, Buffalo and Rochester, along with several other locations.
The claim to fame? The Scotch was the first restaurant in the continental United State to have a salad bar! Brad was also a rancher.
In 1968, he purchased an old dairy farm in LaFayette, NY and converted it into a bison ranch. As many as 80 bison roamed the 250 acre Tiffany Buffalo Ranch at one time, the largest herd east of the Mississippi River. In 1973, he formed a partnership with the local Iroquois tribe and Oren Lyons.
Brad gave the Onondaga People 11 bison for the purpose of starting a herd. This seeding has been fantastically successful: the bison still inhabit the Onondaga land today. Brad sold the ranch and buffalo in 2001.
Brad lived in Ormond Beach, FL from 2001-2017. He purchased his current farm in Earlysville, VA in 2017 with Loreza, his wife of 8 years. She survives him, as well as his three sons Lars (Charlottesville, VA), Hudson (Pittsburgh, PA) and Peter (Sunapee, NH) and first wife Faith Corwin (Canaan, NH).
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, at 11:00AM, at Boulevard United Methodist Church, 113 Grand Boulevard, Binghamton. Burial will be in Floral Park in the spring. The family will receive friends on Monday, at Boulevard United Methodist Church from 10:00AM until the time of the service.
