Ms. Brenda LaVerne Ooten Pope affectionately called “Sissy” 67 of Snellville, Ga passed away on June 20th, 2018. Sissy was born to the union of Honey Lou Harrison Ooten and Blaine Edward Ooten Sr. on February 1, 1951, in Cincinnati, Ohio. She professed her love of Christ at an early age growing up in her Grandfather’s church in Kingston, Tennessee.

Sissy received her nursing degree in 1975 and she made nursing her career for over thirty years working for nursing agencies in Ohio and Tennessee. … Read More » Sissy was a natural caregiver and nurturer, she enjoyed nothing better than to be able to care for her family and friends. She was always the brightest star in the room and always brought lots of smiles and laughter.

Sissy always put other’s needs before her own and took great pride in how she cared for her Grand Mother “Doll”, her children, her grandchildren and her plants. She was an excellent cook and prepared many meals for her family and friends. She cooked enough to feed an Army and no one ever went home hungry.

Sissy enjoyed music and singing and had a beautiful voice. Sissy prided herself in her interior decorating and had a really great eye. She had a great knack for turning everyday items into treasures.

Sissy was a strong lady and endured a lot during her lifetime and always made it through with class and grace with God’s mercy. Sissy was very opinionated and passionate and was not afraid to let anyone who would listen know how she felt, but that was one of her most enduring qualities and made you love and respect her more. Sissy was preceded in death by her father Blaine Edward Ooten Sr. and sisters Monica (Lee Lee) Jerrels and Elaine Robinson.

Sissy leaves to cherish her loving memory, mother Honey Lou Ooten of Cincinnati, OH, daughter Tracy Lynn Bennett of Snellville, Ga, son Howard Pope Jr.(Dino) of Mcdonough, Ga, husband Howard Pope Sr. of Midtown, Tn, sisters Karen Mills of Cincinnati, OH, Paulette Ooten of Cincinnati, OH, Darlene Lampkin of Cincinnati, OH and brother Blaine Edward Ooten Jr. of Cincinnati, OH. Granddaughters Brittany Bennett of Atlanta, Ga, Taylor Bennett of Snellville, Ga, Grandsons Jamal Rosario, Quinntes Welch of Atlanta, Ga and special friend and caregiver JoAnne Richburg and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Special thanks to “Loving Arms Hospice” and their staff.

Visitation is from 10:00 am until 11:00 am, on Saturday, June 30, 2018, at the Walker Funerals & Cremations, 7272 Hamilton Avenue, Mt. Healthy (45231). The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation beginning at 11:00 am.
