OBITUARY Brent A Genovese November 21, 1958 – December 12, 2018 Brent A Genovese, 60, of Apopka, FL, passed away on Dec. 12, 2018. He was born in North Haven, CT on Nov.
21, 1958. Brent graduated (barely) from North Haven High School in 1976, but went on to graduate cum laude with a BS from Northeastern and an Executive MBA from UConn. He served proudly in the United States Marine Corps and Reserves for 13 years.
Brent had a long and successful career in commercial real estate with Cigna, Gartner, General Electric, and most recently with Veritas Technologies where he was Senior Director of Workplace Services. He impacted lives and mentored many. He had a grizzly exterior but the heart of a teddy bear.
Brent had two goals in life: see the world and better his brothers. • He was a loyal brother who wanted to be remembered as having bettered his brothers…. Something he didn’t quite achieve, but he did equal them at best.
• Brent did a good job at seeing the world; he visited 48 states, 6 continents and too many countries and islands to count. His love for travel was equaled by his care and concern for children and families in need, where he and his wife Sherry partnered in providing essentials and holiday gifts to many organizations, both in CT and FL. Brent found joy in sharing Walt Disney World with family and friends over the years as often as he could.
He was a child at heart and loved to bounce with Tigger. He had two favorite sayings; “The best of life is lived as a child! ” and “Growing old is mandatory but growing up is optional”.
Brent had a special place, in Pittsford, VT, where he went to re-energize, hunt with extended family and make memories. He took pride in the cabin he built along with friends and family. He enjoyed competing to see who could find the most shooting stars and/or satellites.
He also had a passion for writing short stories, decorating cakes and his most well know claim to fame, Easter egg hunts his wife and him held for family and friends for over 25 years (filling 4,000 plastic Easter eggs each year). He also was very competitive and always tried to beat his family at Scrabble and Jeopardy. Brent was preceded in death by his father, James (Jake) Genovese.
He is survived by his incredible and loving wife Sherry (Monteiro) Genovese; son Ryan Monteiro; mother Donna (Rehkop) Genovese; sister, Pamela Genovese, brothers: James Genovese and his wife Janine: Mark Genovese and his wife Caren: Andrew Genovese and his wife Laura. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Jackie Monteiro and significant other Joseph Berry: father-in-law, Bill Monteiro and his wife Maria: sister-in-laws: Natalie Kocor and Sue Monteiro: brother-in-law, John Monteiro and his wife Victoria: aunt, Angela Genovese; uncle, Chuck Genovese and by 8 nieces, 4 nephews, 2 grand nieces, 3 grandnephews and by many cousins, other family members and friends, special to him. Brent also had his faithful dog companions, Jester, Kanga and currently Peanut, to name a few.
A Celebration of Brent’s Life will be held at a later date in Connecticut. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to Cornerstone Hospice Foundation (donate. cshospice.org).
