Brigid McParland September 9, 1938-December 26, 2018 Born and raised in Falcarragh, Lower Dunmore, County Donegal Resided in Abington PA On December 26, 2018 at the age of 80 of Abington PA. Beloved wife of John E. McParland. Dear Mother to John (Helen), Bernadette Evertsz (Michael), Brigetta Sparacio (Salvatore), Brenda McKenzie (Ken), and BethAnne Gallagher (Paul).

Loving sister to Anne McIvor (Joseph), late Bernadette Gallagher, and Kathleen McDonnell (Francis). Grandmother of 10 grandchildren: Brooke Evertsz, Maria Sparacio, Peter Sparacio, Mikayla Evertsz, Mary Kate McKenzie, Brandon Evertsz, Kenneth McKenzie Jr, Molly McKenzie, Eva Gallagher, and Patrick Gallagher. Also survived by numerous loving nieces and nephew.

Brigid (known to many as Bridie) came to America in 1958 and lived with her Aunt Gracie and Uncle Paddy. In her early days she worked as a waitress at Stouffers in Penn Center, Philadelphia. In January of 1961 she met the love of her life John E. McParland.

They married May 2, 1964 and the following day left Philadelphia for Colorado where John was stationed in the army to complete his 14 months in the service. Bridie and John started their family in 1965 and returned to Wyncote at the End of September in 1965. They bought their first home in Roslyn, PA in March of 1967.

Bridie devoted her life to her husband, children, and home. Bridie was known for her meticulous landscaping and would often converse with everyone who passed the house. You never entered a home as clean as Bridie’s (despite the five children) and if you knew her well you came to the house hungry.

Bridie would not let you leave the house without something to eat or drink- there was no refusing her hospitality. Bridie always had cake, cookies, or assorted desserts on hand for company. After raising her five children, Bridie then devoted her life to her 10 grandchildren and became known as “Granny”.

Granny was involved in all her grandchildren’s lives. She volunteered to care for several of the grandchildren. None of the Grand children would go to day care but rather were enrolled in Granny’s free day care where they received more loving care, flexibility, and treats than could be offered in any other facility.

Granny never turned away an opportunity to have the grandchildren. She commonly referred to her grandchildren as “my little friends” and worried about each and every one of them. Granny was always involved with her grandchildren and often offered unsolicited opinions and advice.

She loved to have them visit or call. She recently moved in with three of her grandchildren and continued to assist in their care. At times, she even performed their chores for them and she continued to clean her new home as if it were her own.

Granny will be missed dearly by her family and friends and will be remembered fondly by all. Relatives and friends are invited to her Viewing 6-8 PM Thursday January 3rd at William R. May Funeral Home 345 Easton Rd, Glenside PA 19038 and Friday January 4th at Queen of Peace Church 835 North Hills Avenue Ardsley PA 19038 from 9:30-10:30 AM followed by her Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM.
