LOWVILLE – Bruce Carl Burnham, 65, of River Road, passed away Friday evening, March 1, 2019, at Lewis County General Hospital. The funeral service with military honors will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at 5:30 p.m. at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc. with Rev. Donald Manfred, Pastor of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Croghan, officiating.

Calling hours will be held prior to the funeral service from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Lewis County Humane Society, 6390 Pine Grove Road, Glenfield, NY 13343. Bruce was born on October 16, 1953 in Lowville, NY, a son of the late Carl Major Burnham; and Stella Marie McIntyre Burnham.

He graduated from Lowville Academy in the Class of 1972. Bruce worked for Georgia Pacific in Lyons Falls until he was drafted into the U.S. Navy. He served in the Navy from 1972 until 1975.

On June 30, 1973 he married Charlene R. Hirschey at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Lowville. After his service he moved back to Lewis County and went back to work at the Lyons Falls Pulp and Paper until it’s closing in 2001. Then, together with his wife, they moved to New Hampshire where he worked for various paper mills, and later Wal-Mart.

Bruce transferred to Lowville Wal-Mart in 2016. He retired in February 2018. He was a very proud member of the Lowville Elks.

Bruce enjoyed watching movies, and sitting on the porch watching the birds and wild life. He was a die-hard Minnesota Viking fan who enjoyed a cold one while watching the game. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with family, friends, and his dogs.

He is survived by his beloved wife Charlene; three children and their spouses, Karsten and Todd Grunert, of Beaver Falls; Matthew Burnham and Stephanie Wadsworth, Hoosick Falls; Heather and David Shue, of Croghan; seven grandchildren, MaKenna and Montana Grunert; Austin Bauer; Chandra Burnham; Lavinia Wadsworth; Major and Meadow Shue; his mother, Stella Marie Burnham, of Fairhope, Alabama; a sister and brother-in-law, Jacqueline and Ron Lee, of Fairhope Alabama; a special sister-in-law and brother-in-law Denise and Jeff Lyng and the whole Hirschey family; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Bruce was predeceased by a grandson, Matthew Snyder; and his father, Carl Burnham. The family of Bruce Burnham would like to send a special thank you to all of the first responders for their loving care and kindness.
