DANUBE – Bruce I. Keeney, 82 of Fort Plain, NY (Town of Danube) passed away unexpectedly Sunday, December 9, 2018 at his residence. He was born on May 24, 1936 in Warsaw, NY the son of the late G. Irving & Helen (Shafer) Keeney. He was a graduate of Letchworth Central Schools Class of 1954 as well as a graduate of Cornell University Class of 1958 and later received his Master’s Degree from Syracuse University in 1962.

He honorably served his country as a member of the US army National Guard, ending his enlistment at the rank of Staff Sergeant. Bruce was a lifelong Gardiner, he was a life member of member of the NYS College Agriculture & Life Science Society at Cornell University, an active member at onetime of the American Hemerocallis Society (Day Lily Growers Group), American Iris Society and the NYS International Farm Youth Exchange Program where he went to the Dominican Republic in 1959. He served for many years on the Town of Danube Planning and Zoning Boards and was the Town Assessor for 8 years.

He was employed at onetime by the Rochester, NY Public Library, and SUNY, Brockport Library. He was hired as the first Librarian at SUNY IT, Utica when the Institute was first formed and remained in that capacity until his retirement in September of 1991. He is survived by his brothers Leslie Keeney (Mary Ann), Loveland, CO, Kurtis W. Kenney, Federal Way, WA, Michael D. Keeney (Bonnie), Lexington, SC and his sisters Sydney Storment (Paul), Acton, MA and Alyson Englert (Chris), Perry, NY, his sister in law Sally Keeney, Pinellas Park, FL, his goddaughter, Erin Connor and his dear friends Leonard and Janet Pross, Little Falls, NY several nieces and nephews and many cousins.

He was predeceased by his brother Eric D. Keeney, sister in law, Joanne Keeney and niece Jennifer Pascale. Memorial Services will be held at the Indian Castle Church, 141 Dillenbeck Road Little Falls, NY on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at the Indian Castle Church Cemetery.

Arrangements are by the Chapman-Moser Funeral Home, Inc., 42 N. Ann Street, Little Falls, NY.
