Caleb Doyle Hocking was the first of twins born on March 25th 1970 to John Charles Hocking and Donna Lynn Doyle of Seattle, Washington. He, his twin Treloar, and mother moved to Kirkland, Washington before primary school. During that time his mother married Bob Burgess and they eventually moved to Arlington, Washington where they homesteaded.
He spent many summers with his father and siblings, Karen and Sherice. During these years he enjoyed scouting and the outdoors. He was a hot dog skier and even tried out for the junior Olympics.
He played soccer, wrestled and swam on school teams. He enjoyed spending hours teaching himself computer programming and listening to music. Caleb even had a short stunt as a runway model at Nordstrom.
Due to his height and huge presence many of his friends called him Superman. One of his biggest strengths was his love for large extended family and the time he gave to connection. In 1988, he graduated from Marysville Pilchuck High School with honors.
He went on to attend college at the University of Washington before joining the Navy in 1989. He aspired to be a Top Gun, like most young men his age, but his color blindness and height made that impossible. After basic he trained as medic in Chicago, Illinois and was transferred to a Marine Corps base in San Diego, California where her earned the title of DOC.
Later he was stationed in Oak Harbor, Washington to work on base at the hospital. It was there that he met and married Jennifer Van Every and went on to have 4 children, Ezekiel, Liam, Gabriel, and Jonah. During these years he had a few changes to his occupation with the military and even had a short stint in the branch of Air Force.
After 911, Caleb decided to serve as a reservist and became a contractor for the US government in Iraq where he spent 4. 5 years in country. Later he moved to the DC area in Maryland to continue his work to support the Department of Defense in cyber security.
He met Fedra Palomino at work and together they lived with her son Milan in Columbia. He made friends all over the world and was know for his larger then life personality, generous heart and sincere faith. Recently he discovered a half sister named Megan and was delighted to have the chance to share their stories together.
He looked forward to introducing her to his family. Thank you Caleb for blessing the world with the 48 years of your journey. Every person that you encountered was touched in heart, soul and mind.
You made this world a more loving place and for that we love you and you will be greatly missed.
