Captain Earl Borders Jr. 85 of Ashland passed away Monday, December 24, 2018 at his residence. Earl was born September 14, 1933 to the late Irma Marie Perry. In addition to his mother he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years Marcia Sue Scaggs Borders; two brothers Harold Borders and Paul Borders; half brother Mark Borders; and one sister Carol Donini.

Earl was a veteran of the Ashland Police Department, serving 38 years and retiring as Captain. While serving… Read More » the police department, Earl was instrumental in the Ashland School Safety Patrol, serving as its director and founder of the annual Ashland School Safety Patrol Trip to Washington D.C. He was also the former director of the six county FADE drug task force, past president of the Boyd County PTA Council, and was a life member of the Boyd County PTA Council.

He was also a faithful member of Unity Baptist Church and a Kentucky Colonel. He leaves behind two sons Earl Richard Borders III (Sandra) of Newark, Ohio and R. Scott Borders (Sue) of Florence, Kentucky; two daughters Marcia Lynn Hunt (Tom) and Angela Dawn Childers (Todd) both of Ashland; half-brothers Mike Borders and Eric Borders both of Ashland; 11 grandchildren Earl Allen Borders IV, Suzanne McClain, Rachel Bush, Rebekkah Shumaker, Aaron Borders, Sarah Hall, Emily Powell, Katlyn Hunt, Madi Borders, Alli Borders and Shelby Hall; 18 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild; along with a host of extended family and friends. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday at Unity Baptist Church in Ashland with Pastor Jeremy Couture officiating.

Burial will follow at Ashland Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 6-8 PM at Caniff Funeral Home in Westwood and one hour prior to service at the church on Saturday. The Ashland City Police Department will serve as pallbears and honor guard.
