Carl Q. Hohlweck, 96, of West Bend, passed away at Kathy Hospice in the town of Polk on Tuesday, April 30, 2019, with his family at his side. Carl was born on June 29, 1922, the son of the late Carl and Theresa (nee Bressman) Hohlweck. On July 1, 1944, he was united in marriage to Ruby Menger at Salem United Church of Christ in Wayne.

Ruby preceded Carl in death on June 14, 2015. Carl graduated from Rufus King High, class of 1940. He purchased the farm in the Town of Wayne where he met Ruby Menger.

In addition to farming, Carl worked for Piper Bros. Farms and Carnation Farms as a cattle tech. In the early 60’s, Carl co-purchased the Hitching Post in Kohlsville.

Later he became sole owner of the Post. He was also a part-time postal carrier and later co-formed a carpentry business known as HFK Builders. Carl then formed Hohlweck’s Tub and Showers.

Also during his career he dabbled in politics acting as Town of Wayne Chairman for many years. All of his business ventures were very successful. His heart was always with his family and his church.

Those Carl leaves behind to cherish his memory include his four daughters, Carol (Bill) Butzlaff of Kewaskum, Judith (Duane) Sabish of Campbellsport, Joanne (Gene) Schuppel of Kohlsville and Joy (Dan) Kudek of West Bend; seven grandchildren, William (Debbie) Butzlaff, Brian (Debbie) Butzlaff, Steven (Luan) Sabish, Lisa (Tim) Schraufnagel, Melissa Schuppel-Riley, Michael Schuppel and Amy Schuppel (fiancé, Chad); 13 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. In addition to his wife and parents, Carl was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Hohlweck; a sister, Elizabeth (Chester) Shevey; a nephew, Charles Shevey; two brothers-in-law, Frederick (Lucy) Menger and Ken Klein; and a sister-in-law, Ruth (Ewald) Rauch. Funeral services for Carl will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, 2019, at Salem United Church of Christ (8925 County Rd W, Campbellsport) in Wayne.

Pastor Ruth Hansen will officiate and burial will follow in the church cemetery. Carl’s family will greet relatives and friends at the church on Saturday from Noon until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Salem United Church of Christ are appreciated.
