Carol’s Obituary Carol Hancock, “The Towel Lady”, of Vacaville passed away peacefully on January 24, 2019 after a short battle with cancer at age 76. Carol was a resident of Vacaville for 42 years. Carol is survived by her brother James Chladek of Volin, SD, sisters Kathie Greer (Hal) from New Boston, MI, Helen Marie (Bootsie) Moody of American Canyon, CA, Roberta (Bertie) McKean (Verd) of Newark, CA, sons Jeff (Julie) Hancock of El Dorado Hills, Mark Hancock of Fresno, and her four AMAZING grandchildren Cole, Alexandra, Tyler, and Olivia.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband Robert (Bob) Hancock, sister Mary Jo Chouinard of Jefferson City, Missouri, and her parents Franklin and Hattie Chladek of Tyndall, SD. Carol was born in South Dakota, the eldest of six siblings. Her family moved to Alameda, CA in 1957 where she graduated from Alameda High in 1960.

As fate would have it, she would reunite with Bob also from South Dakota whom she married in 1962. Once married, Carol lived in Hawaii where Bob was stationed in the Navy. When back in Alameda and eventually Newark, Carol started her sewing business where she developed her passion for crafting.

Carol and Bob then moved to Vacaville in 1977 for Bob’s job. Carol had a long career with Anheuser Busch and retired after 24 years. Carol adored her family.

She was a dedicated and loving daughter, sister, aunt, mother, and grandmother who traveled throughout the United States to visit family. Carol was a long time member of the Moose Lodge in Vacaville. In Carol’s retirement, she continued her passion as a crafter specializing in needlepointing and sewing.

Carol and her sister Bertie attended numerous craft fairs in Solano County up until December of 2018. If you have a stylish, crocheted kitchen towel, it was probably from the Towel Lady! You can say your goodbyes to Carol in a few ways.

Visitation is on Wednesday, January 30 between 5-7pm followed by a Catholic Rosary from 7-8pm at Oakmont Funeral Home in Vacaville. Funeral Mass is on Thursday, January 31 at 10am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Vacaville. Internment takes place at Vaca-Elmira Cemetery immediately following Mass.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Susan G. Komen Foundation. “I’ve got too much to do”.
