Carol L. “Linda” Prevas died peacefully with her husband by her side on Friday, December 7, 2018, at the age of 71. Linda was born in Baltimore in 1947, to the late Raymond J. “Ray” Sr. and Mary V. “Ginny” Herold. She met her high school sweetheart, Nicholas J. “Nick” Prevas, Jr., in March 1963 at the age of 16.
She graduated from Mergenthaler Vocational-Technical High School in 1965, where she studied Business. In 1966 they were married at St. Dominic’s Church in Baltimore. Linda gave birth to their daughter Virginia-Marie “Ginger” in 1976, and son, Nicholas J. “Nick” in 1981.
The family settled in Highland, MD in 1986. Linda was a loving and devoted mother who actively engaged in the education and development of her children. A talented and self-taught seamstress, Linda handmade Ginger’s christening gown (used by all), the children’s Halloween and school play costumes, and later, dresses for Ginger’s high school dances and for her granddaughters wear in son Nick’s wedding.
Linda had a passion for quilting, travel, arts and crafts, and gardening. She also had a fondness and deep affection for animals. Linda’s work career spanned a variety of administrative roles, including employment with States Marine Isthmian Lines, Internal Revenue Service, U.S. Customs Service, Howard Community College, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
She retired from the federal government in 2005. A dedicated and loving grandmother of five, Linda cherished spending time with and caring for her grandchildren. She especially enjoyed gardening, painting, and working puzzles with them.
After retirement, Linda and Nick fulfilled their lifelong goal of travelling across the U.S. by train, visiting Glacier National Park and other destinations. Last summer, they celebrated 52 years of marriage. In her 71 years, Linda touched many lives.
She will always be remembered as a kind and loving person who cared for others. She was fun-loving, light-hearted, patient, accepting, forgiving and immensely loyal. She always looked for and encouraged the best in others, and quickly made friends wherever she went.
Linda is survived by her husband of 52 years, Nicholas J. “Nick” Prevas, Jr.; daughter and son-in-law, Virginia-Marie “Ginger” P. and William T. Beckett; son and daughter-in-law Nicholas J. “Nick” III and Jill K. Prevas; and five grandchildren: Madelyn E. Beckett, Olivia M. Beckett, Naomi E. Beckett, Eva J. Prevas, and Kit S. Prevas. She is also survived by: brother and sister-in-law, Raymond J. Jr. and Lynn Herold; sister, Connie L. Stuckey; brother and sister-in-law, Russell J. and Audrey Herold; sister-in-law Jeanette Herold; and extended family. Her siblings Robert J. Herold and Ralph J. Herold preceded her in death.
The family will receive visitors at the Donaldson Funeral Home of Clarksville, 12540 Clarksville Pike, Clarksville, MD 21029 on Monday, December 17, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and then again on Tuesday, December 18, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Louis Catholic Church, 12500 Clarksville Pike, Clarksville, MD 21029, on Wednesday, December 19 at 10:00 AM with interment to follow at St. Louis Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
