Carole J. Spree was born June 15, 1935 to Robert and Helen (Meyers) Wise of Union City, Indiana. She attended Union City School, K-12, all in the same building and graduated 1956. Carole attended nursing school at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, IN.

In her last year of nursing school, she met her future husband, Floyd Spree on a blind date. In Floyd’s last year of seminary, she moved to St. Louis and worked in surgery, at Deaconess Hospital. June 8, 1958, Carole and Floyd were married (two days after Floyd graduated from the Concordia Seminary) at Concordia Lutheran Church in Kirkwood, Missouri.

Their first call was to St. John’s Lutheran Church in Burr Oak, Michigan. In 1963, they adopted three month old twins, Mark and Marcia. They were also blessed with two children of their own.

Julie was born in 1965 and Janette in 1966. After Jan’s birth, Carole and Floyd had four children under three and a half years of age. In the summer of 1966, Floyd was called to Mt.

Calvary Lutheran Church in Brentwood, Missouri. It was the hottest summer on record in St. Louis, and of course, no air conditioning. Christ’s love was evident in their home.

Throughout their 28 years of faithful service at Mount Calvary, their house had an open door policy. Everyone was welcome, especially those in need. A home cooked meal, a place to stay, prayer, and encouraging words were examples of Carole’s faith and caring heart.

Carole worked over 40 years as a registered nurse (1956-1998). She loved being a nurse. She has lifelong friends from nursing school (Margie, Dixie and Butch).

She enjoyed staying informed and updated on current medical procedures, medicines and treatments. Her career included working in an OBGYN office (1967-1974), with Dr. John Skinner (1974-1988) and with Dr. Sandra Knoll (1988-1998), OBY and Internal Medicine. Carole was the perfect pastor’s wife and homemaker.

She played organ, piano, directed choir and hand bells. She was actively involved in the Lutheran Convalescent Auxiliary (2008-2019), Women’s Guild, and LWML. Carole enjoyed meeting and talking to people.

She had many interests and hobbies. like; decorating, flower arranging, sewing, canning, and cooking. She enjoyed doing puzzles, playing games and cards (Bridge) and was a good speller.

Carole was an avid gardener, liked to travel, and loved her St Louis Cardinals. Family was important to Carole. She cherished time with her children, grandchildren (Alyssa, Evan, Case, Mason, Brooke (Curt), Breanna and Brandan), and extended family in Freistatt, Missouri.
