Obituary for Carolyn Matthews Carolyn “Kay” Matthews peacefully passed away at her home to her new home in Heaven on June 24, 2018 at the age of 78. Kay was born in Mangum, OK on October 1, 1939 to Joye and Daniel Landess. Kay was a very compassionate, lovable person who was a great cook, very stylish, and loved playing tricks on family and friends.

Anyone who met her loved her and wanted to be around her. Her favorite things were coffee and biscotti in the morning, OU Sooner sports especially football, shopping trips, holiday dinners with the family, and her precious pets over the years. Her favorite trips were to New York City and Venice, Italy.

Kay’s career path has taken her on several different paths such as hair stylist, in-home daycare and eventually Home Health Care Services in and out of her own home, which includes House Mother at Meadowbrook Acres for Special Need Adults and most recently from 2003 – 2013, she took in her sweet former sister-in-law when Hazel became unhappy with assisted living. Hazel loved her dearly and she was happy being with Kay at her home. Kay was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ruby and Herman Weese; parents Joye and Daniel Landess; brother Bobby Dan Landess; Uncle Bobby Jack Weese; former husband and lifelong friend Alvis Matthews and a very special nephew W.C. Coleman III.

Survivors include her children Darissa Bishop and husband Tom, Tamara Newberry and significant other Allen Berryhill, and Michael Matthews and brother W.C. Coleman Jr.; nephew Clendon Landess; nieces Pamela Spring, Susan Ledford, Elizbeth Henriquez. Kay also had four grandchildren, Candice, Matthew, Nicholas, and Paige and three great grandchildren, Brody, Brittany and Meghan. We will miss her dearly and will always remember her as the best mother and grandmother.

We are happy to know she is no longer in pain and look forward to seeing her again in Heaven. If she were here she would thank the wonderful help and care from Good Shepherd Hospice and her in-home caregivers Tamara, Nick, Darissa and her very special friend Nanci Bradford.
