Carrie Lee “Sue” Vance Wilburn, age 96, of Abingdon, Va. , passed away on Monday, October 1, 2018, at Johnston Memorial Hospital. She was born September 6, 1922, to the late Elijah Vance and Ruby Justice Vance in Twin Branch, W. Va.

She was of the Christian faith. In addition to her parents, Sue was also preceded in death by 10 siblings, Claude, Pricie, James, Evelyn, Horace, Reba, Sylvia, Mary, Charles, and Ida Jean. She… Read More » is survived by her loving husband of 75 years, Dan E. Wilburn, Sr.; son, Dan Wilburn, Jr. and wife, Marian, of Bristol, Va.

; daughter, Brenda Vernon and husband, Monty, of Abingdon; brother, Harry Vance of Justice, W.Va. ; sister, Janice McCrary of Lebanon, Tenn. ; four grandchildren: Dan “Trey” Wilburn, III and wife, Carrie; Leann Vernon; Mark Vernon and wife, Jennifer; and Jeffrey Vernon and wife, Amanda;and five great grandchildren, Chloe, Ian, Emily, Tyler, and Abigail Vernon.

A graveside service will be held at Forest Hills Memory Gardens on Thursday, October 4, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Shahn Wilburn and Pastor Paul Bufford officiating. Pallbearers will be Dan Wilburn, Jr.; Monty Vernon; Dan “Trey” Wilburn, III; Mark Vernon; Jeff Vernon; and Ian Vernon. Sue’s nieces and nephews will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitation will be held at the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service on Thursday from 12:00 p.m.-1:45 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2840 Electric Rd. , Suite 106A, Roanoke, VA 24018. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Patricia Surber and the staff of Johnston Memorial Hospital for their excellent care.
