Carroll was born in Akron on June 28, 1930 to the late William J. and Arah A. Lee. He lived in Akron until moving to Tallmadge in 1968. Carroll was proceeded in death by his wife of 59 years, Mary Janet Lee, and siblings, William and Martha.

He is survived by his two daughters and sons-in-law, Lisa (David) Schauer and Rebecca (Michael) Testa, three grandchildren, Nicole (Seth), Gian (Kaitlin), and Carlo (Angela), and four precious great-grandchildren, Olivia, Adam, Amelia and Leo. In addition, he is survived by his brother Robert (Carol) Lee and his dear nieces and nephews. A 1948 graduate of East High School, Carroll enlisted in the Navy to see the world and served four years as Petty Officer Third Class aboard the USS Strong.

Following discharge he attended The University of Akron, where he lettered in tennis and was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. While attending college he worked the graveyard shift as a member of the B Squad at Goodyear. Carroll worked as a private surveyor for eight years before joining the City of Akron Bureau of Engineering Department where he retired after thirty years of service.

Carroll had a wide variety of interests in his younger days. He was an avid runner, hiker and swimmer. He collected thousands of books and was a voracious reader until the end.

His favorite book was A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens and his favorite author was Robert Louis Stevenson. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, attending sporting events, collecting antiques and staying the winter months of his retirement in South Carolina with friends and family. Keeping with his wishes, there will be no calling hours or service.

Interment will take place in Tallmadge Cemetery at a later date. The family would like to thank the staff and caregivers at Mulberry Gardens where Carroll resided the past two years. Also thank you to Christi Kugler, RN and her team at Harbor Light Hospice.

And finally thank you to the librarians of the Stow-Munroe Falls Public Library for their bi-weekly visits and deliveries of books on tape the last two years; those visits meant the world to him.
