Catherine Babcock, April 30, 1923 — November 26, 2018

Obituary for Catherine Babcock The Celebration of Life memorial service for Catherine Babcock, of Fergus Falls and formerly of Wadena, will be held at later date. Catherine, age 95, peacefully passed away on Monday, November 26, 2018, at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls, MN. Catherine was the last child born to Carl Andrew and Sarah Catherine “Kate” (Eckman) Borchers on April 30, 1923, in rural Deer Creek, MN.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Deer Creek. After high school graduation she greeted the public as a sales person at the Lyman Store in Wrightstown, and at J C Penney in Wadena. Catherine was united in marriage with Ronald W. Babcock on February 4, 1944, in Deer Creek.

Their son Steve was born December 31, 1948. By 1970, Ron and Catherine purchased the LaMay Auto Parts store in Wadena, and served their customers for 20 years. After they closed the auto parts store the building became home to Hurrah and later Maurices clothing stores.

It is now part of Pizza Ranch. Away from work, Catherine was a talented seamstress and sewed a lot of her granddaughter’s dresses. She also belonged to a neighborhood ladies sewing club.

Preceding Catherine in death were her husband, Ron, on December 12, 1999; parents, Carl and Kate; brother, Clark Borchers; and sisters, Ada Lohman, Marie Menze, and Charlotte Brunko; and nieces and nephews. Catherine is survived by her devoted son, Steve (Linda) of Edina; granddaughter, Bethany (Reid) Bradley of Edina and great-grandchildren, June, Duncan and Berk; along with several nieces and nephews. Urn bearer will be Steve Babcock.

Honorary urn bearers will be Gary Brunko, James South, Glen Lohman, Dale Borchers, Dayle Veen, Les Lindholm, Craig Folkestad and Robert Iken, Jr. Burial will be in Wadena Cemetery, Wadena, MN. Steve and Linda express their appreciation for the kind and thoughtful care given to Catherine by the staff at the Broen Memorial Home in Fergus Falls and at Sheridan House in Fergus Falls.
