Catherine Young reed was born to the late Mattie Davis Young and Tommie Johnson on July 31, 1933, in Caila, Mississippi. She entered eternal rest and peace at St. Francis Hospital on Saturday, December 1, 2018. Catherine confessed Christ at a young age.

She joined New Salem Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Frank E. Ray, Sr. and was a dedicated member until her health failed. Later through the years she met and married Charles O. Beaty, Sr. Catherine had 14 children. She was preceded in death by her six children Willie, Henry David, Carolyn, Westley III, and Gregory; four brothers; Belton, Young, Robert Davis, Fred Young, and Clyde Walls; two sisters: Georgia Jackson and Mary Anderson; and her best friend Earnestine Crook.

Catherine leaves to cherish in her sweet memories, one sister; Maggie McGee (Clarence, Sr.) of Birmingham, Alabama; her eight children: Annie Smith, Florine Carr, Thomas Reed, Dorothy Reed, Phillip (Lois) Reed, Lovenia Monroe (Gary), Katrina Reed, Tamekila Reed-Stuckey (Terry) all of Memphis, Tennessee and Douglas Reed of Clearbrook, Texas. The joy of her life was her twenty-six grandchildren, fifty-three great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends who will miss her dearly.
