Cecil Milton Avery, Jr. of Zwolle, Louisiana December 5, 1926 – May 12, 2019 Funeral services for Cecil Milton Avery Jr., 92, of Zwolle, LA, will be held on Friday, May 17, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Zwolle Pentecostal Church with Rev. Phillip North officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt.

Zion Cemetery. Visitation will begin on Thursday, May 16, 2019, at 5:00 PM at Zwolle Pentecostal Church. Cecil Milton Avery was born on Sunday, December 5, 1926 in Anetta, TX.

He passed away on Sunday, May 12, 2019 at VA Hospital in Shreveport, LA. He was preceded in death by his sister, Frankie Avery; parents, Cecil M. Avery, Sr. and Mayme Avery White; first wife, Frances Green Avery, the mother of Deana Hurt and Amy Avery Holman; and grandson, Josh Hicks. Cecil graduated from Robert E. Lee Pascal High School in Ft.

Worth, TX in 1944. He served in the US Navy in WW II and as a fireman serving at United States Naval Air Station in San Diego, California. He received the commanding officer’s commendation, performing with courage and devotion to duty while extinguishing ammunition fire in the margin area April 16, 1946 under dangerous conditions far more dangerous than ordinary.

He was discharged July 24, 1946 as a Seaman First Class. In earlier years before moving to Louisiana in 1975, through a correspondence course to Alexander Hamilton Modern Business Institute he received his associate degree. He also received a Bachelor of Theology from Indiana Bible College in May 1985.

He received a Certificate of Ordination from United Pentecostal Church in June 21, 1989 in Lufkin, TX. Cecil was instrumental in bringing Zwolle Rail Car to Zwolle in 1975. He was known in the rail car industry as “Mr. Rail Car” and some said he was a legend in his time.

Cecil was also a devoted member of Zwolle United Pentecostal Church. He is survived by his wife, Martha Hicks Avery of Zwolle, LA; daughters, Deana Avery Hurt of Grosbeck, TX and Amy Avery Holman and husband Kurt of State College, PA; sons: Paul Hicks and Cynthia of Rosco, TX, Mark Hicks and wife Cheryl of Pleasant Hill, LA, Eric Avery and wife Linda of Perry, GA and Cecil M. Avery, II and wife Brooke of Many, LA; step-brother, Wiley Lindsey of Arkansas; thirteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren; along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
