Obituary for Celestine Cyrus Sloan Celestine Sloan was born February 28, 1938 to Robert and Edna (nee Anstead) Cyrus in Halifax, North Carolina. When Celestine was 2 years old, she moved to Pittsburgh, PA along with her parents and her older brother Charles. Celestine graduated from Homestead Senior High School in 1957.

She began her career at Magee Women’s Hospital in the mid 1960s as an EKG Technician. It was at Magee Womens hospital where she met her husband George A. Sloan. Jr. and they were married on September 1, 1972, and to this union one child, Nickol, was born.

Celestine was a member of Clark Memorial Baptist Church where she remained a member until her passing. In service of her lord and savior she was a member of the Trustee Board, the Deaconess Board, The Missionary Society, the Kitchen Committee and was Chairman of Vacation Bible School. She began her 35 year career with the Church in 1979 as the Outreach Secretary and retired in 2014 as the Church Secretary.

Celestine loved children, and while she only had one child of her own, her home was always full of children, welcoming and full of love. Everyone knew that Celestine’s house was the place to be. She was also a foster mother to her beloved Dara.

She adored her nieces and nephews and spoiled them, but she had a very special relationship with her two nieces Robee Punako and Maya Adams. She loved to bake cakes and chocolate chip cookies. During the holidays she enjoyed making homemade chocolate fudge, apricot brandy pound cake and ambrosia salad.

Celestine eventually left her beloved Homestead, PA in 2014 to move with her daughter Nickol and her son-in-law Karlos. She enjoyed life to the fullest watching the Lifetime Movie Network, doing word searches, going to the casino, and making her weekly telephone calls. Celestine was preceded in death by her husband George A. Sloan, Jr., her parents Robert and Edna Cyrus, and her brother Charles A. Cyrus Sr

She leaves to mourn her daughter Nickol (Karlos), two sisters Robee (Roy) Walker, and Judithe Adams (Roque Hairston), brother Robert (Taren) Cyrus Sr., sisters-In-Law Mamie Tillman, Martha (Lance) Dixon, Mary (George) Aston, Nancy Jean Tice and brother-in-law Lemuel Sloan.
