Charlene Lenore Schmid of Park Rapids, Minnesota September 23, 1935 – February 8, 2019 CHARLENE L. SCHMID September 23, 1935 – February 8, 2019 Charlene L. Schmid, age 83, a lifelong Dorset, MN area resident, peacefully passed away in the early morning hours of Friday, February 8, 2019, at the home of her daughter, Deb Anderson near Park Rapids. Charlene was born on September 23, 1935 at St. Lawrence, South Dakota to Clair and Leila (Ehrich) Hullinger. As a small girl, she moved with her family to the Dorset area where she attended public school in Dorset through the eighth grade and then went on to attend high school in Park Rapids from where she graduated with the Class of 1953.

As a young woman, Charlene gained employment working in the Hubbard County Assessor’s Office for several years. On June 24, 1956, she was united in marriage to Dacle Schmid. Their marriage was blessed with five children: Deborah, Dacle, Linda, Sandra and Samuel.

The young couple made their first home at the Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico where Dacle was stationed while serving his country in the Air Force. Upon receiving Dacle’s honorable discharge, they returned to Dorset where they have made their home ever since. Charlene was a wonderful cook who will be long remembered for her delicious homemade fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy, her popular fish fry, her oven baked and fried turtle dishes, potato salad and homemade buns.

In addition to making a warm and loving home for her family, Charlene also worked cleaning cabins and each spring and summer worked outside raising a large vegetable and flower gardens. Charlene was a woman of faith who devoted her life to the Lord. She was an active member of the First English Lutheran Church in Dorset where she actively ministered as a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, the Dorcas Circle, taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, member of Altar Guild, participated with the Quilting Ladies and faithfully attended Pastor’s weekly Bible Studies.

Above all, Charlene will be remembered for her strong love for Jesus and her unconditional love for her family. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Dacle Schmid; her five children: Deborah (Eugene) Anderson of Park Rapids; Dacle (Reinet) Schmid of Dorset, Linda (John) Rutkowski of Wahpeton, ND, Sandra (Terry) Phillips and Sam (Joy) Schmid all of Park Rapids; 14 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two brothers: Norman (Joyce) Hullinger of Riverton, MN and David Hullinger of Madison, MN; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Charlene was preceded in death by two brothers Clairon and Loren; one sister, Delaine and two granddaughters: Amanda Schmid and Melissa Schmid.

Funeral services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at the First English Lutheran Church in Dorset, MN with the Rev. Chris Davis officiating. The organist will be Lila Kalish.

Congregational hymns will be “I Lay My Sins On Jesus”, “Abide With Me” and “My Jesus I Love Thee”. The active casket bearers will be her grandsons: Peter Anderson, John Rutkowski II, Eric Schmid, Kenneth Domrose, Andrew Anderson, Christian Phillips, Anthony Schmid, LeRoy Phillips and Stephen Rutkowski. The honorary casket bearers will be her granddaughters: Jennifer Smith, Lenore Smith, Adeliza Rutkowski, Dawn Rutkowski and Belinda Williams.

Interment will be made in the Henrietta Cemetery in the spring. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. Following the funeral, the First English Lutheran Church family will host a luncheon for all in attendance.
