OBITUARY Charlene Nelle Tiemann November 5, 1930 – December 11, 2018 Charlene was born November 5, 1930 to Chester W. Nelle and Ida Georgia Kuempel on a farm near Manor, Texas. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Pflugerville and was a fourth generation (great, great-granddaughter) of the founder of the city of Pflugerville. Following graduation from Manor High School in 1947, she attended Texas Lutheran College for two years where she was a member of Beta Alpha Sigma Sorority and received an Associates in Arts Degree.

She transferred to the University of Texas for one year, married Kenneth Tiemann, and spent the next several years working and earning her Ph.T. (Putting Husband Through) degree while Kenneth studied at the College of Pharmacy at the University of Texas. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Science and Master’s degree. Charlene then returned to the University of Texas and received a Bachelor of Business Administration along with a permanent Teachers Certificate for Secondary Education.

After working for the State of Texas and as a secretary in a bank, and giving birth to two daughters, she spent 33 years as Business Manager/Co-Owner of Hyde Park Pharmacy in Austin. She served as the President of the CAPA Auxiliary from 1972 – 1973. Charlene served for many years on the Altar Guild of St. Martin’s Lutheran Church and volunteered at the Texas School for the Deaf and the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired.

She particularly enjoyed her participation in the Adopt A Highway program. After Charlene retired she spent most of her time, alongside her husband of 68 years, at their ranch in Guadalupe County. Her hobbies included gardening, snow skiing, deer hunting, and travelling.

Her most memorable trips include taking her mother to London, Paris, and Germany; going to China with daughter Lisa; Denmark with daughter Terri; other trips included Alaska, Canada, Spain, Monaco, Switzerland, Austria, Hawaii, and many of the Caribbean Islands. During the years that Kenneth served as President of the American Pharmaceutical Association they travelled extensively over the U.S. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Chester “Buddy” Nelle.

Her mother, Georgia, lived to be 99. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Edward Tiemann; the real joys in her life, her daughters, Terri Tiemann Meeks, M.D., Rheumatologist of New Braunfels, and Lisa Kathryn Tiemann, BSN, RN of Austin, Texas; sister Frances Parten of Marlin, Texas; grandson William James “BJ” Steele III, M.D., Neurosurgeon of Houston, Texas and his wife, Melissa Letsos, BSN, RN; great-grandsons William James “Wills” Steele IV and Parke Edward Steele; many loving cousins and a host of other family and friends. The family would like to give special thanks to Cynthia Pennick for her loving care, compassion, and friendship as her personal care provider.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Cook-Walden Capital Parks Funeral Home at 14501 N. IH 35 in Pflugerville. Funeral Service to be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, December 16, 2018, at Immanuel Lutheran Church at 500 Immanuel Road in Pflugerville, with interment immediately to follow at Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Kenneth and Charlene Tiemann Endowed Scholarship Fund at Texas Lutheran University, 500 W. Court Street, Seguin, Texas 78155.
