Charles Anthony Macko, 62, of Voluntown, passed away peacefully at his home on September 20, 2018. He was the beloved husband of Jaymie (Jolin) for 39 years. Born in Norwich CT on August 26, 1956, he was the son of the late Nicholas and Bernice (Brisson) Macko.

Charlie graduated from Norwich Regional Technical School. He owned his construction company, Charles Macko Foundations, building concrete foundations throughout Eastern CT, for over 30 years. Charlie worked many years as an auto mechanic and welder, and could fix almost anything mechanical.

He loved to collect Lionel toy trains, and often set them up to run around the rooms in his house. Charlie’s true passion was farming. He could always be found when at home in his garden, on one of his collection of Farmall tractors.

Chores on the farm during childhood and the teen years taught him how to raise chickens, plant and harvest a great crop of corn, and to repair anything with wheels and an engine when it broke down. He certainly learned to operate a tractor long before getting a driver’s license or owning his own vehicle. Charlie grew to appreciate the value of a peaceful plot of land and the joy of generously sharing the produce.

Charlie loved to travel throughout New England and Canada. His favorite destinations were Boothbay and Bar Harbor, Maine. His love of the meals from the Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound is well known.

He is survived by his wife, his sister Patricia Carson and husband Donald of Caribou ME, brother Nicholas and wife Emily of Norwich, brothers Ronald and Alex of Griswold, and numerous aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be at Gagne Piechowski Funeral Home 490 Voluntown Road , Jewett City, CT. , on Thursday Sept 27th, from 5:00 – 7:00 pm.

A graveside service will be held at St. Thomas Cemetery. , Sheldon Road, Griswold, CT on Sept 28th, at 11:00 am. For online condolences please go to www.
