Waniger, age 85, a resident of Manitowoc, entered eternal life on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at Manitowoc Health and Rehabilitation Center. Charlie was born on August 28, 1933 in Manitowoc County to the late Arthur and Mary (Siegel) Waniger. He graduated from Valders High School with the class of 1952 Charlie enlisted in the United States Air Force and served his country until his honorable discharge.
On February 27, 1960, Charlie married Lois Carstens. She preceded him in death on March 16, 1979. Charlie had worked at Jagemann Plating and retired from Imperial Eastmans in 1995.
He enjoyed playing sheepshead, cheering on his Chicago Cubs, and above all, Charlie enjoyed spending time with his family and friends – especially his grandchildren. Survivors include Charlie’s three children, Ricky Waniger, Brian Waniger, and Lori (Andy) Brey, all of Manitowoc; daughter-in-law, Lori Waniger, Manitowoc; six grandchildren, Eric (Deanna) Waniger, David “D.J.” Waniger, McKenzie Waniger, Mitchel Waniger, Christopher Brey and his girlfriend, Jenna Waskow, and Cierra Brey; three sisters, Rosemary (Jerry) Kiefer, Boulder, CO; Faye (Leo) Riesterer, St. Nazianz; and Margaret (Jerry) Post, St. Nazianz; three sisters-in-law, Carol Waniger, Valders; Alice Waniger, St. Nazianz; and Shirley Gaedtke, Manitowoc; brother-in-law, Gale Windus, Manitowoc; also other relatives and friends. Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Mary Waniger; wife, Lois; son, Randy Waniger; two brothers, Francis Waniger and Tom “Butch” Waniger; an infant sister, Rita Ann; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Harold and Viola Carstens; sister-in-law, Jenny Windus; and brother-in-law, Romy Gaedtke.
Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, January 4, 2019 at St. Francis of Assisi on Waldo – 1121 North 14th Street, Manitowoc. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Dave Pleier with burial to take place at Evergreen Cemetery at a later date.
Following the funeral service, a dinner for family and friends will be held at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center located on the south property of the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home.
