Obituary Charles Lloyd Stites, known by many as Fossil, was born June 9, 1941 in South Bend, Indiana. Following in his mother’s footsteps, he began playing the violin at a remarkably young age. He studied String Education, earning his Masters Degree from Indiana State University in 1964.

Chuck served honorably as a Combat Photographer in the Air Force during Vietnam.
