Seiger Jr. passed away June 24, 2018 in Orlando, Florida, where he resided with his wife Betty (Hohman) Seiger. He was a former longtime resident and Chief of Police of the Town of Egremont. Son of Charles Sr. and Elizabeth Seiger, Charles was born April 20, 1929 in Flushing, New York where he attended local schools and worked at the family owned bake shop before enlisting in the Merchant Marines.

Upon returning from the Marines, Charlie and his family relocated to The Berkshires where Charlie went on to work for Berkshire Engineering as a carpenter. A business man by nature, Charlie owned and operate the former Seiger Esso station and Rte. 7 car wash, as well as apartment buildings in the Great Barrington area.

Charlie is most well known as the former Chief of Police of the Town of Egremont, a position that he respectfully held for 18 years. In 1985, then Governor Michael Dukakis acknowledged his service as the Police Chief for his outstanding commitment, kindness and dedicated service. If you lived in Egremont and needed help, Charlie was there.

He was the first recipient of the Outstanding Citizen of Egremont Award in 1985. After retiring from the police department, Charlie continued his service to the community as a Berkshire County Deputy Sheriff for 8 years. Charles leaves behind his wife Betty of 17 years, his four children; Janice and husband Ken Schumacher of Great Barrington, Carl and wife Maura of Tyringham, Robert of Kennesaw, GA, Richard and wife Martha of Pittsfield, 8 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and four stepchildren.

Charles was predeceased by his wife of 40 years, Carolyn Warner, and his three siblings Marybeth, Thomas, and Raymond Seiger. Charlie is, and always will be, an icon of the Town of Egremont. The good he did will live with the stories we all will share as we remember his remarkable life.

SERVICES – The family of Charles M. Seiger, Jr. will receive friends on Saturday, May 4, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Finnerty & Stevens Funeral Home in Great Barrington, MA immediately followed by a graveside service at Hillside Cemetery in Egremont, MA, conducted by Deacon Richard McGinnis.
