Softly in the morning, you heard a gentle call, you took the hand God offered you and quietly left us all… Charles W. Gable, 85, of Athens, PA passed away on Saturday morning, May 18, 2019 at the Elderwood Healthcare Facility in Waverly. Charlie was he was affectionately known by his family and friends was born at home in Athens, Pa during a snow storm on March 5, 1934. The son of the late Stephen and Margaret (Wright) Gable.

Charlie proudly served his country with the US Navy and for many years served as a Meat Specialist – Supervisor for area supermarkets. A man of many talents, Charlie was a talented woodworker. Charlie was a lifetime member of the Sayre VFW, served as Vice President of the Athens American Legion, enjoyed the friendships shared a the Sons of the Italy.

He also enjoyed fishing, gardening, dancing, and traveling the countryside which often ended up in dinner out. Charlie will be greatly missed by his companion Marilyn Curle of Waverly; his children: Timothy (Heather) Gable of Van Etten, NY; Thomas (Denise) Gable of Cambridge, England; Mark (Susie) Gable of Monument, CO; Eric (Deena) Gable of Denton, NC; Charlee Kay (Jim) Gable-Dougherty of Pittsburgh, PA. A brother Philip Gable of Dundee, NY; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and Marilyn’s extended family.

Charlie was predeceased by wife Annette Johnston Gable and brother Duane Gable. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Saturday, June 1st from 10 to 11 am at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. A memorial service and celebration of his life with Military Honors will follow at 11 am with Pastor Jason Burger, officiating.

A private family interment will be in the Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA.
