OBITUARY Charmelle Ishmael Guercio April 11, 1946 – June 2, 2018 Revelation 21:4 “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away”. And this, so God did.
Our hearts are filled with sorrow as we mourn the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Charmelle Ishmael Guercio. A native of Bayou Goula and resident of White Castle, Charmelle was taken by Christ on Saturday, June 2, 2018 in the arms of her three children and family. Charmelle’s survivors include her three children, son and significant other, John Joseph Guercio and Angie; daughters and sons-in-law, Jill Guercio Holton and Cloyd “Cowboy”; Janet Guercio Binning and Matthew; five grandchildren, Nicole Elizabeth Stevens, Preston Michael Stevens, Joel “Brett” Hebert II, Lennox Wayne Binning, and Sullivan Matthew Binning.
Her large family of siblings will miss her greatly: one sister, Annelle (Nell) Ishmael Rives; five brothers, “Bill” (Billy Boo) Ishmael, Timothy Ishmael, David Ishmael, Patrick Ishmael (Maria), and Mark Ishmael. She also leaves behind her mother-in-law, Virgina Amedio Guercio, and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceding in passing and rejoining with her in Heaven are her husband of 52 years, Dominick Joseph Guercio; mother and father, Evelyn and Calvin “Lucky” Ishmael; two brothers, Calvin Ishmael and Frank Ishmael; father-in-law, Dominick Raymond Guercio; brother-in-law, Ruel “Bucky” Rives; and sister-in-law, Wanda Baker Ishmael.
A young Charmelle’s academic and career endeavors included graduating with honors from White Castle High School. She attended college to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), worked as a nursing assistant to Dr. Connie Major, and later as a private duty nurse for a patient she adored. Her later years afforded her the opportunity to pursue and obtain a degree in accounting.
She was an active member of the Catholic Church with a devotion to Jesus Christ and the Blessed Mother. She had a love for the Rosary, nutrition, and naturopathic medicine, and she loved visiting and caring for her children and grandchildren on a frequent basis. Filled with love and the need to care for others, many lives have breathed easier because she lived.
Arrangements are as follows: Visitation at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Church in White Castle, Thursday, June 7, 2018 from 9:00 AM until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM, celebrated by Father Paul Yi. Funeral procession to Charmelle’s final resting place at the White Castle Cemetery will follow. Serving as pall bearers will be John Guercio, Preston Stevens, Brett Hebert, Cloyd “Cowboy” Holton, Matthew Binning, and Patrick Ishmael.
We wish to extend our deepest gratitude to Dr. Louis Barfield and Dr. Ronald Fields, and all of the professional and knowledgeable physicians and staff members at Our Lady of the Lake RMC during her final hours. We are especially grateful to her brother Timothy for his selfless, unwavering care in her final days, and for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support from friends and loved ones, near and afar.
