Mrs. Cheryl Ann Harris, age 74, passed away early Thursday morning, May 9, 2019 in a Crestview nursing facility. She was born November 11, 1944 in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the daughter of Eugene Ernest Dick and Agnes Louise Cleary Dick. Cheryl, while living in Fort Walton Beach met a local boy, from Fort Walton at a Square Dance in the early 60’s.

Three years later, she was married to Walter who joined the U.S. Navy in 1964 and thus their lives together began as she followed him from duty station to duty station. Walter, her husband, being a Fort Walton boy brought Cheryl back home after his military career ended and it was then that the neighbor who owned the trailer park across the street from Walter’s Mother’s grocery store, Busy Bee Grocery, and who had since moved to the Childen’s Home Community of North Walton County encouraged Cheryl and Walter to “come visit”. They did just that and fell in love with the area, eventually buying the lot next to Stella Fisher, the neighbor, and made their home between there and Fort Walton.

For twenty years, or more, Cheryl who is a devout Mormon gently prodded Walter, who had always attended LDS functions with Cheryl, to be baptized into the faith. Finally, in 2006 Walter surrendered and Cheryl’s prayers were answered as Walter became a faithful and loyal member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Bound together for eternity, Cheryl has gone to prepare for the reunion which shall never end.

Among those who survive Cheryl are her husband Walter George Harris, Sr Their children, April Turner and husband Tommy, George Harris, Jr. and wife Stephanie and Bill Harris. Eight grandchildren, Geoffrey, Travis, Madison, Troy, Jaylin, Haven, Crystal and Stephanie.

One great grandchild, Tyler. Her sister Patty, her brothers-in-law John and Robert and her sisters-in-law Margaret and Barbara also survive. Memorials may be made in Cheryl Ann Harris memory to the American Heart Association or to one’s favorite charity.

A time of visitation will be Monday, May 13, 2019 from 10 until 11 A.M. in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in DeFuniak Springs with the service beginning at 11 with Bishop Wendel Mitchem officiating. Burial shall be in Barrancas National Cemetery on the Pensacola Naval Air Base.
