Cheryl Mitch – Hensley February 02, 1959 – January 24, 2019 Share this obituary View/Sign Guest Book Cheryl Mitch-Hensley, age 59, of Crete formerly of Homewood. Beloved wife of James Hensley. Dear daughter of Carl and the late Sena.
Loving sister of Tami McNicholas, Karlyn (late Matthew) Strack. Cherished aunt of Danny (Lauren), Matt and Michael (Sadie) McNicholas and Sena Marie Mortensen, Katie (Morgan Steele), Emily and Mary Strack. Great aunt of Adeline, Jack, EmaBelle and Cillian.
Daughter-in-law of Janice Straczek and sister-in-law of Delores, David and Curtis. Best friend of Phillip Berg. Dear aunt and friend to many more.
Our feisty Cheryl would tell you she was a beloved wife, favorite daughter, awesome sister and wonderful aunt and we would have to agree. Her love of all things CUBS and Blackhawks was unmatched. We can’t remember a winter without her wearing that blackhawks jacket and CUBS scarf.
She was a die hard fan and never missed a game. Her bartending career spanned a period of 25 years and she was a self described “kick ass” bartender at that. She is remembered fondly by regulars who became friends.
She was always ready to stick up for her friends and family even if that meant things getting physical – some might say she preferred that. Her little sisters were never bullied at school because Cheryl was there to protect. She loved dogs more than humans but got along with everyone – unless they messed with her or her family.
Her nieces and nephews meant everything to her and she had a way of connecting with each of them in a unique way. Cheryl would do anything for them and she was always the “Fun Aunt”. James was Cheryl’s beloved husband and we are still shocked on how she got so lucky with him.
He came into her life at the exact right time and loved her unconditionally until the end – and beyond. Her husband misses her dearly and Cheryl knew what a blessing he was. We were able to have her come home to her childhood (and later her 20s and then back again in her 30’s and then for a few hours when she got mad at James) home for her last few days.
She was surrounded by her loving husband, sisters and father as she left this earth to be reunited with her mother. Cheryl will forever be in our hearts and we will always cherish the time we had with her. Plants and flowers were not Cheryl’s thing but helping kids with cancer and of course the CUBS were.
