Funeral services for Christina (Benally) Tarango, 72, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, will be held at Miracle Valley Church in Becenti, NM on Thursday, June 21st at 10:00 am. Christina will be laid to rest in the family’s burial plot on the Navajo reservation in Becenti, NM. Christina was born in Crownpoint on December 31, 1945 and she graduated high school from the Intermountain Indian School in Brigham City, Utah in 1963.

Upon graduation, she was selected to attend Nursing school in Los Angeles, California, at Los Angeles County + University of Southern California Medical Center, where she found her lifelong calling as a nurse. Christina worked as a nurse and as a Navajo interpreter in various Albuquerque hospitals for more than 40 years, retiring from the Lovelace Hospital in 2011. Christina is survived by her two daughters, Rose Lydia (Vazquez) Weahkee and Leticia Tarango.

She is also survived by Rose’s husband Michael and by her grandchildren, Joseph Gonzalez, Tamia Rose Weahkee, Nicolaus Harris Weahkee and Sofia Isabella Weahkee. Christina is survived by her siblings: June Toledo of Crownpoint, New Mexico, Carol Dolan of Becenti, New Mexico, Ernest Benally of Becenti, New Mexico, Francis Benally of Ft. Defiance, Arizona, Rosita Belin of Becenti, New Mexico, and Alvin Benally of Becenti, New Mexico.

Christina is preceded in death by her parents, Frank G. and Nancy Benally, of Crownpoint.
