On Sunday, January 27, 2019, Claire Cole O’Guin loving mom, grandma, great-grandma and friend passed away at the age of 93. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Walter G. O’Guin, and her parents, Jack and Mildred Cole. She is survived by her three children, Jerold C. O’Guin (Jackie), Jeffrey R. O’Guin (Kim), and Judith O. Brandes (Bill), six grandchildren, Kristen O’Guin, Carrie Asmar-O’Guin (Suzie), Lauren Harman (Andrew), Stephen O’Guin, Caitlin O’Guin, Kelsey Brandes, and great-granddaughter, Lily Harman.

Claire was born in Los Angeles, CA on April 29, 1925, but she grew up in Louisville, OH. She moved to St. Louis to go to college. There she met and married Walter.

They made their home in St. Louis. She had a Bachelor of Music Degree in Piano and Piano Pedagogy from St. Louis Institute of Music, where she taught before opening her own studio. She had a lifetime teaching certificate (K through 6) from UMSL.

She was active in MTNA Music Association at the local, state, and national levels, served as 2-term president of the Piano Teachers Round Table, and was a charter member of the St. Louis Area MTA. After retirement, she tutored children, volunteered at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center, and had a ministry of encouragement writing notes to dear friends and family. Claire’s life centered around her faith, family, music, and church.

She loved to study the bible, engage in theological discussions, and was a faithful intercessor. She and Wally started the prayer ministry at St. Andrew UMC. She wanted to be remembered as a peacemaker and as one who lived her life worthy of her calling.

She took great delight spending time with her grand-children, continued to use her musical talents in ministering to others, and was very active in her church. She leaves a legacy of faith and without a doubt, lived a life worthy of her calling. Friday, February 1, a short service will be held at the Jay B. Smith Funeral Home (7456 Manchester Rd.

, Maplewood), at 12:30 PM with a 1:45 PM interment at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. Friends can visit the family at St. Andrew United Methodist Church (3975 US-67, Florissant) beginning at 5 PM, followed by a celebration service at 7 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The American Heart Association.
